Frosty Flakes - The Quilt!

I so enjoyed making the little snowflakes 

that this quilt just came together fairly easily and I love the look...

 I just needed time to finish it .....

normally it would only take a night BUT

with a bump to my DD2 head 

and an emegency doctors call

 I suspected she had hurt her neck

I was a bit panicked as she wouldn't move it...

for few hours, even with the doctor saying- all Ok

and then DD1 sprained her foot at a birthday party jumpy castle.... 

so off to hospital yet again... 

I finally managed to get a sewing afternoon in and stitch down the binding.... 

I used a wider than I normally do and white but it looked the best.

I used 84 X 2" squares for the sashing and then a 4" border...

also some little stitched and beaded stars in the middle corners.

 I can't wait to put it up at Christmas... maybe a little sooner..

 or I should say like my Darling daughter called them today

 "Lexi snowfleckles"... so cute, I had to laugh...

and I promised I would reveal the whole quilt all finished, 

and I will just a bit later today or early tomorrow.

It is together BUT I changed my mind on the

 quilting it so am franctically trying to get it finished now!

Little Squares and Owls!

Last weekend I cut all these little squares ready to 
sew together and add to my Frosy Flakes BOM 
or should I say BOW (Block - Of - the - Week). 

I have so enjoyed making all of the little snowflakes

and assembling the quilt. Now to quilt it and

reveal the finished Frosty Flakes mini quilt.

I will do this on Wednesday with Block four.

and onto the sidebar for you to upload your 

snowflakes pictures if you want to. 

I'd love to see them and I am sure many others would too.

I have started to really like our feathered friends too

and have a few projects to make from this gorgeous fabric

that Khris gave me for my birthday,

I am so blessed with lovely friends. Thanks Khris!

This is the Hexagon I made for the swap I am in 

and Judy was the recipient this month so I passed

it to her while we were sewing at Khris's house this week.

 We had such a ball, laughing, chatting and eating

 and some sewing was done... he he

Green Snowflakes?

I have never seen a green snowflake before

have you? but I have been stitching away
using the lovely Kate Spain
12 days of Christmas charm pack
and in it are some gorgeous greens
perfect for snowflakes...

I love this block, I love the color green,
its my birthstone color too, and it looks so fresh
and sparkly as a snowflake!

How to sew Hexagons!

I have had a few email enquiries
asking how do I stitch my hexagons.
I had a little help when I first started doing
them again after many many years break.
My dear friend Vicki who loves
hexagons and makes the most gorgeous ones.
Stop past her blog to see the latest ones she has done.

Vicki sent me some links and here they are.
I love this method HERE pt 1 and HERE pt 2.
And another favorite which is the same method...HERE
I can save my templates and reuse them without
damaging them with a needle hole.
These are a brilliant method for a quick and neat hexagon.
Have you tried Hexagons lately.... there so easy.
Give them a go, lots of us are!
You'll be pleasantly surprised how quickly the come together.

Frosty Flakes BOM block Two.

I hope you've enjoyed the first mini hexagon snowflake block,
one block down, now for number two.


I have named block two 'Ice Fancy'
because it reminded me of Ice Crystals,
cold and spectacular.

I added lots of sparkly beads and a little bit of fancy.

'Frosty Flakes' snowflakes BOM

Do you love snowflakes? I do and they remind me so much
of Christmas in the Northern Hemishere,
running around with my mittens and hat on in the snow,
playing snowball fights and building snowmen.

Frosty Flakes is my new FREE BOM
I wanted to share with you,
to make in time for Christmas.

It will run for the next 10 weeks starting today
and every Wednesday for 10 weeks
9 snowflakes to make, one a week for 9 weeks,
week 10 being the assembly instructions
for a delightful Christmas wall hanging.
Please grab the button above for your blog
and spread the news around, so everyone can join in.
You can also use the pattern to do a stitchery as well
without the hexagons if you wish.

You will need:
nine 5" fabric charm squares for snowflakes
nine 6 1/2" fabric squares for background
beads for embellishment
threads for stitchery (match to your fabrics)
appox 10" WOF of background for sashings.
assorted 1 1/2" squares for border.
( I have used a Kate Spain 12 days of Christmas
for Moda charm pack) with leftovers.

'Springtime' Fresh Hope redwork quilt revealed.

Today I can show you the little secret the Gum Tree designers and I
have been keeping for nine or so months.
"SPRINGTIME"
A collaborative effort to aid the 'Fresh Hope' program
We chatted, drew, designed, chatted some more, and stitched, quilted
and thoroughly enjoyed the colaborative effort to bring this quilt about...

Here is my block that I drew and stitched.
The inspiration behind my block was,

Giving from the heart is what the Fresh Hope program do...

they love without cost... they give without cost and

those women fortunate who are chosen for the Fresh Hope program

have an opportunity to grow in love.

They can come to a safe haven to be loved beyond measure

and start the journey of life with a fresh hope.

They have come out of their winters and have come into springtime.

They have a place to be themselves and catch the view of life

from a different perspective. A Fresh Hope perspective.

I then stitched away at a verse of the poem.
'happily enjoying all moments'
I can easily imagine siting on the little garden bench
smiling, enjoying the moments.

It has been a pleasure to join together with my Gum Tree friends
to help create something for the Fresh Hope,
a Spring time for all to enjoy.
Winter has gone ‘Springtime’ has come to Fresh Hope.
I Hope you ahve enjoyed finally seeing our 'Springtime'
